Components of English VS ASL

English: phonemes   letters, sounds 

ASL: Hand shape, hand orientation, location, movement, facial modifier.

5 parameters of signs

 

Does ASL have phonemic meaning?

 

Does each of the parameters have broad innate meanings?

 

Signs must have: Hand shape, Hand Orientation, Location

Secondary characteristics sign may have.  Movement, facial modifier

However facial modifiers when applied become the dominant factor to the meaning of the sign.
